deviled pork butter lettuce walnut spread
Last week when tapeworm was in Baltimore, I taunted him with my sandwich from The Sentinal. So juicy!

Korean food truck and Cuban Sandwich truck
So there’s a Korean food truck in SOMA. I’ve heard about it for a while, but still haven’t been there: http://seoulonwheels.com/Seoul/yum.html. Also, Goza Goza, the taco truck at 25th and Harrison (I think) makes decent cuban sandwiches (not exactly a ubiquitous sandwich in these parts).
It’s not just cheap, it’s free!
Just read about the Elizabeth Street Brewery in the Noe Valley Voice (yes, sometimes it pays to read the local rag). It’s a mini brew pub run out of the garage of two NValley residents on Elizabeth Street. They open it up on random weekends and serve their beer – for free. Technically, they can’t sell it, but they ask for donations and/or you can buy a tshirt or baseball hat to show your appreciation. Sounds like a good venue for a cheap eat pub crawl one weekend!
Larkin Express Deli; fried chicken meal at Elsy’s at Mission and 25th
LED is a deli/Burmese joint on Larkin between Golden Gate and Turk. It is real cheap, and the owner, a Burmese guy named Dennis, is super friendly. Most importantly, the Burmese stuff is superb and made with care and love. I think the tea leaf salad beats Yamo’s and folks I know say it beats Burma Superstar’s too. I can also vouch for (among other items) the rainbow salad, chana dal, fish chowder, and chicken biryani (especially the chicken biryani). The coconut gelatin and coconut semolina cake desserts are both great too. It is open only for lunch from Monday to Thursday, open until 8 pm on Friday and Saturday, and closed on Sunday. If you go for lunch, you will see some hot food in steam tables, but avoid that stuff and order off the menu. This place could really use a little business! On an entirely unrelated note, I discovered a few days ago that Elsy’s, the pupuseria next door to the underservedly popular La Taqueria, makes fried chicken! You have to get it with (2 of 3) rice/ beans/salad, and tortillas. The fried chicken (2 pieces of my choice) was good, fresh, and very modestly breaded (if at all), the beans were ok, the salad icebergish and blah, and the tortillas handmade and delicious. $7.50, but plenty of food, and the f.c. and tortillas make it worth it.
